Newsletter 13 Nov

Joanna Lambert (Churchwarden at St Swithun’s Compton Beauchamp) has advertised a hack along Ridgeway on Sunday 13th November to arrive at Compton Beauchamp War Memorial for 10.45am to coincide with the Act of Remembrance.  Please note that riders are asked to keep their ponies off the grass around the War Memorial and Church to avoid churning up the grass.

Suggested parking in large area of gravel and hard standing either side of B4000 above Ashbury where the Ridgeway crosses the road. Depart 10am and hack East for about 1mile and turn left down hill signed to Compton Beauchamp church. The War Memorial is on this track at the junction of the Ashbury Wantage road ( which, hopefully will have been re-opened). It should take you about 1/2 hour from car park to war memorial – then you can either continue on your hack on the Ridgeway by turning about, or continue down the hill into the tiny hamlets of Knighton and Compton Beauchamp. The Saxon church, behind the big house you will see on the bend in the road,  has beautiful 20th century wall paintings. You could tie your ponies up (briefly) to the railings outside to have a look, as the church is open.

Please contact Joanna Lambert (jrjlambert@aol.com07990898175 ) if you are coming to the service as she would like to lay on refreshments. This hack will not be ‘accompanied’

Best wishes,
Lucy
